I have a very small and I'll admit dumb question about the movie Schindler's List and a scene?

During the liquidation of the ghetto and Schindler and his mistress are looking on while on their horses. They show the little girl with the red coat who is lost in the midst of all the confusion and violence. Now are we supposed to believe that Oskar is following the little girl with his eyes? Or was it just focused on her for the people watching to further hit home how sick the Nazis were and they killed entire families men, women, and children. I was a bit confused for some reason lol. I don't know it's not that important but I just always thought that they showed the little girl for the viewers' sake but my friend was telling me that Schindler was watching her wander around and it's through his eyes.
