Should the media be held to the same moral standards as todays criminals?

The media no longer reports the news , in some instances they make it up ,( The monsters are coming as soon as we invent them ),should the public cry foul at media attempts to defame and often destroy people who are guilty of nothing as yet to be proven ?Should the media apologize for its accusation's and false claims ?
